Grinded Coconut Sambar
ORIGIN
'Grinded Coconut Sambar or kulambu' is frequently or almost daily made recipe in the state of kerala in Tamil Nadu.It is taken with plain boiled rice and ghee.It is not advisable everyday for heart patients as it consists of cholestrol,however once in a while can be taken .

INGREDIENTS

Black Gram - 2 tsps. (ulundhu)

Grated Coconut - 1 cup

Red chilli - 4 pieces

Fenu Greek - 1/4 tsps.

Oil - 2 tsps.

mustard - 1/2 tsp.

Curry leaves - to taste

Tamarind - a lemon sized ball

Salt - to taste

PROCEDURE

Step 1: Add 1 tsp. full of oil into the frying pan and fry the red chilli pieces,Black gram dhal,grated coconut and fenu greek in the pan for 2 minutes.Then,grind the above mixture (wet) in a mixer-grinder to make a thick paste.

Step 2:Soak the lemon-sized ball of tamarind in water (1 cup) and dissolve it for 10 minutes.Keep it aside.

Step 3:Now,add salt to the tamarind water and boil it for 10 minutes.

Step 4:After 10 minutes,add the above grinded paste into the boiled tamarind water for 10 minutes again.Now , when the mixture thickens ,add 1 1/2 cups of water into it and boil for 5 to 7 minutes.Keep it aside.

Step 5:Now add 1 tsp. full of oil in another frying pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves and fry them until mustard seeds sputters.Now,add this into the above boiled mixture.

Step 6:Serve hot with plain boiled rice and ghee.

NOTE:
* Take all the ingredients in the above mentioned quantity only.
*Use fresh coconut and donot use the old ones as that does not taste good.
*Do not forget to soak the tamarind in water .
