Kootu

ORIGIN:
"Kootu" is a simple and normal day to day dish usually served with rice or chappathis.It is a typical tamilian dish.Its main ingredients are vegetables and dhal and therefore rich in proteins and vitamins.It is easy to prepare this dish.

INGREDIENTS

Moong dhal -100 gm.

Water - 1 cup.

Bangalore brinjal - 1/4 kg.

Uradh dhal - 2 tsps.

Red chillis -3

Grated coconut - 50 gms.

Mustard seeds -1/2 tsps.

coconut oil - 1 tsp.

salt - 1 tsp.

PROCEDURE

Step 1:First of all peel off the skin of bangalore brinjal and chop into small pieces.

Step 2:Wash the moong dhal in water and drain the water.

Step 3:Then , add 1 cup of water to the moong dhal and add the chopped bangalore brinjal to it ,add 1 more cup of water to it.

Step 4:Cook this mixture in a pressure cooker for 15 minutes.

Step 5:Now,fry the red chillis and uradh dhal (black gram dhal) in a frying pan with 1 tsp of oil and keep it aside.

Step 6:Now grind the grated coconut with the fried red chillis and dhal mixture in a mixture grinder to get a thick paste.

Step 7:Now add 1 tsp. of salt to the cooked vegetable-dhal mixture and mix it with the grinded paste ,and boil it for 5 minutes.

Step 8:Fry mustard seeds in coconut oil till they sputter and add this to the boiling kootu.

Step 9:Remove from heat .

Serve hot with plain cooked rice or chappathis.

NOTE:

*Please use the ingredients in the above mentioned quantity only.

*Grind into a nice paste.

*Add weight to the pressure cooker while cooking the dhal-vegetable mixture.
